During the last week in July, the annual Lightning Ridge Opal Festival is held in and around the Lightning Ridge Bowling Club. The next festival will be Thursday 29th July to Sunday 1st August 2010.

Biannually, the International Opal Jewellery Design Awards Association holds an Awards program exclusively for freeform and or undulating opal jewellery - the next being in 2011.
